Old Tower Hill Road Bank Robbed Friday: South Kingstown Police

South Kingstown police say a North Kingstown man was arrested. He wore a mask and hit a bank customer during the robbery.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — A masked man robbed the Savings Institute Bank and Trust at 121 Old Tower Hill Road on Friday. But he didn't get away. Narragansett police officers happened to be in the area. They heard the police radio and saw Ryan Ross, 33, of North Kingstown, driving away. Narragansett officers followed his car along Kingstown Road, radioed a description, and South Kingstown Police picked up the trail along Kingstown Road.

South Kingstown Police caught Ross after he crashed at Saugatucket and North roads and tried to run away. During the car pursuit, Ross hit a police cruiser, police said.

The bank was robbed at 11:33 a.m. Inside the bank, Ross hit one of the customers with a metal rod, police said. They did not know how much money was taken. The investigation is continuing.
