SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — A chicken coop in South Kingstown was destroyed in a fire early Thursday morning, the fire department said. Firefighters from four stations were called in to extinguish the blaze.

Peace Dale, Wakefield, Forestry and Matunuck Stations all responded to the home. While the crews were able to keep the flames from spreading to the nearby garage, six chickens inside the coop did not survive, the department said.

Photos taken at the scene show the completely burned out structure, which was reduced to just a shell.
