Boys’ Hockey Division II – No. 2 Prout Plays Tonight

No. 2 Prout travels to St. George’s in Middletown for game two in their series at 7 p.m. Results from Prout’s first game with No. 7 Middletown were unavailable.

If needed, game three will be Monday at a location to be determined. The semifinals start Friday, with the winners playing No. 3 North Kingstown or No. 6 North Smithfield.

Boys’ Hockey Division III – No. 4 Narragansett Holds Series Advantage

According to reader Paul Sahagian, the Narragansett Mariners took game one of their three-game series with No. 5 Ponaganset, 6-1, on Friday night.

Narragansett, seeded No. 4, can take the series with a win tonight at the Levy Rink at 8:30 p.m. If a game three is needed, it would be on Monday at a location to be determined.

The winner of the series plays in the semifinals against No. 1 West Warwick on Friday. This is another best-of-three series, with the state finals scheduled for the week of March 11.

Girls’ Hockey Division II – No. 2 Storm Play Tonight

The No. 2 ranked Narragansett, South Kingstown and North Kingstown girls’ hockey co-op plays No. 3 Lincoln-Cumberland at 7:30 p.m. at Lynch Arena. Results from Friday’s game in the best-of-three series were unavailable.

If needed, game three would be at the Boss Arena on Monday, time to be determined. The finals for Division II start Wednesday at Brown University.

Boys’ Basketball State Tournament – No. 13 Prout Alive

Thanks to 23 points from wing Eric Ramieka, and 14 points and 14 rebounds from center Justin Bristol, the Prout Crusaders upset Division II champion Cumberland 61-57 in the Sweet Sixteen of the boys’ basketball state tournament.

The Providence Journal has a small write-up and a box score on its website. The South County Independent also provided updates via its Facebook page throughout the game.

With the win, No. 13 Prout will face No. 5 North Smithfield at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Alumni Hall on the Providence College campus. It’ll be a Hoosiers-like story for either winner, with the “underdog” narrative in play for both the low-ranked Crusaders and the Division III Northmen.

The winner between Prout and North Smithfield will play in the Final Four on March 8 at the Ryan Center against the winner of No. 1 Classical and No. 8 Westerly. A time has not been announced for these games yet. The state final is March 10 at the Ryan Center.

Girls’ Basketball Division II – No. 2 Narragansett, No. 8 Prout Play Sunday

Both the Mariners and the Crusaders remain playing for a Division II title on Sunday at Rhode Island College following wins in the preliminary round.

No. 2 Narragansett beat No. 15 Mt. Hope 55-44. The Mariners will play No. 7 East Greenwich at noon. If they win, they play the winner of No. 3 Scituate and No. 11 Coventry in the semifinals at RIC 8 p.m. Wednesday.

No. 8 Prout beat No. 9 West Warwick 58-46. The Crusaders will play No. 1 Rogers at 6 p.m. If they win, they play the winner of No. 5 St. Ray’s and No. 4 Moses Brown in the semifinals at RIC 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Girls’ Basketball Division I – Top Seed La Salle Alive

No. 1 La Salle plays No. 4 Westerly at Rhode Island College 8 p.m. Tuesday. The winner plays in the state final Sunday, March 10 at the Ryan Center at 4 p.m.

The Rams beat No. 9 South Kingstown 57-42 on Friday night.

Wakefield’s Carmen Russo is a starter for the Rams. According to states kept by The Providence Journal, she has played in 17 games this year, averaging 6.1 points per game.
