RI Health Officials: Mother's Day Is Safer Outside
With sunny weather in the forecast for Mother's Day, health officials urged Rhode islanders to take their celebrations outside.
NARRAGANSETT, RI — Mother's Day is this Sunday, and with sunny skies in the forecast, Rhode Islanders are encouraged to take their celebrations outside to keep themselves and their loved one safe.
Dr. Philip Chan, a spokesperson for the Rhode Island Department of Health, said that the state "is in a very good place," and that it's important to keep up with safety measures to continue the progress being made.
Because coronavirus transmission is proven to be considerably lower outdoors, Chan encouraged Rhode Islanders to take their Mother's Day celebrations outside this year. This allows families to gather while keeping those who are vulnerable — such as children. who are not yet eligible to get vaccinated — safe. If gathering inside, it's important to wear a mask.
