RI Weather: Thunder, Wind, Rain To Slam The State Saturday

The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Watch for the entire state for Saturday from 2 p.m. through the evening.

NARRAGANSETT, RI—Another bout of rain and wind is headed for Rhode Island over the weekend. The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Watch for the entire state starting Saturday from 2 p.m. and lasting through the evening. Meanwhile, rain is moving in. Most of Rhode Island is expected to catch about an inch of rain, with Newport expected to see slightly less than an inch and Coventry expected to get more.

Thunderstorms are also a possibility Friday night and Saturday.

In a worst case scenario, the rain totals could measure two inches over the 72-hour stretch, the weather service said. The sun comes back Sunday, but then there's more rain next week.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A High Wind Watch means the potential exists for a damaging wind
event. These strong winds are capable of downing trees and power
lines, as well causing property damage. If a high wind warning is
issued, stay inside and away from windows.

Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 10am, then a chance of showers. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Patchy fog before noon. High near 61. Breezy, with a south wind 13 to 21 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Mostly clear, with a low around 42. West wind 11 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 41 mph.
