According to police, a second witness corroborated the victim’s story, although Champlin denied it, telling police he hadn’t assault the woman. He allegedly told police, “This is ********!”
Police said that based on the statements of the witnesses – one verbal and one written – Champlin was arrested. Police noted that he had two previous domestic charges, but one was a disorderly charge, so Champlin’s arrest on April 18 was not elevated to a felony.
According to police, Champlin was held for arraignment at Fourth Division District Court at 9 a.m. on April 19.
