SK Man Charged With DUI

According to police, they make a traffic stop on a drunken driver's car after seeing him run a red light and a stop sign. Narragansett police logs from April 2 and April 3, 2013.

South Kingstown Man Charged With Drunken Driving

Adam D. Osborne, 25, of 17 Liberty St., South Kingstown, was arrested at about 1:46 a.m. on April 3 and charged with drunken driving, and cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test.

According to police, an officer driving on Point Judith Road saw a blue Honda run through a red light from Point Judith Road to Burnside Avenue, and then go through a stop sign on Exeter Boulevard, swerving on the roadways in-between.

Police said a traffic stop was made once the car pulled into a driveway on Exeter Boulevard. Police said that while speaking with the driver – Osborne – he was slurring his words, and smelled strongly of alcohol.

According to police, Obsorne consented to field sobriety tests, which they said he failed. They noted that during some components of the tests, Osborne told them several times, “I have done this test before.”

Police said Osborne was arrested following the field sobriety tests, and at headquarters, refused to submit to chemical breath tests.

Police noted that Osborne was uncooperative during processing, and told police he would not take a chemical breath test unless his lawyer was in the room. Police said that when he was told he could call his lawyer, Osborne opted not to do so, and instead refused to answer any questions, or to sign the refusal form for the breath tests.

According to police, Osborne was held for arraignment at Fourth Division District Court at 9 a.m.

URI Student Charged With License Violation; Car Also Overloaded

Alexis E. Sergi, 18, of 1 Tupperware Drive, Apt. #229, North Smithfield, was cited at about 12:18 a.m. on April 3 and charged with driving with a suspended license. Police said Sergi is a student at the University of Rhode Island.

According to police, an officer driving on Point Judith Road near Clarke Road clocked a white Chevy driven by Sergi at 60 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone. A traffic stop was made near the Westlakes Gas Station.

Police said a background check revealed that Sergi’s license was suspended as of March 6 for having no proof of insurance. Police also noted that Sergi’s car had six people in it, but only five seats.

According to police, Sergi was cited for the license violation, speeding and overloading of a vehicle. Police said they transported one passenger to a home on Jamestown Boulevard, and another passenger with a valid license drove the car from the scene.
