2 Charged With Drunken Driving

Providence Woman Charged With Drunken Driving

Kelly Mills, 44, of 71 Ardmore Ave., Providence, was arrested at about 10:16 a.m. on Feb. 22 and charged with drunken driving with a blood alcohol level greater than .15.

According to police, an officer said Mills appeared to be intoxicated and driving near the parking lot of the Breakfast Nook II and United States Postal Service office. Two calls about Mills’ driving were received by dispatchers, police said.

Police said that while speaking with Mills, she smelled strongly of alcohol, and told an officer that she had drank “half a pint of vodka last night.”

According to police, Mills failed field sobriety tests, at which point she was arrested. Police said that prior to submitting to a breath test, Mills told them, “I know that I am going to test positive,” and “I am done, I’m going to be locked up for five years.”

Police said Mills consented to chemical breath tests, which revealed blood alcohol levels of .255 at 11:11 a.m. and .263 at 11:15 a.m. Police said Mills was processed and then released at about 2:20 p.m.

Narragansett Woman Charged With Drunken Driving

Elizabeth M. McCarten, 29, of 19 Elm Ave., Narragansett, was arrested at about 1:16 a.m. on Feb. 21 and charged with drunken driving with a blood alcohol level greater than .15.

According to police, an officer traveling on Post Road near South Road saw a Toyota Corolla driven by McCarten swerving. A traffic stop was made on Succotash Road near Jerry Brown Farm Road as a result.

Police said McCarten smelled strongly of alcohol and had problems answering questions. Police said she consented to field sobriety tests, which she failed, at which point she was arrested.

According to police, McCarten consented to chemical breath tests, which revealed blood alcohol levels of .199 at 2:12 a.m. and .202 at 2:15 a.m. She was processed at headquarters and then released at about 6:57 a.m.
