Pizza Delivery Man Charged With Possession of Marijuana, License Violation

Alexander A. Ghanem, 20, of 155 Yawgoo Valley Road, Apt. #28C, Exeter, was arrested at about 8:05 p.m. on Nov. 30 and charged with possession of marijuana and driving with a suspended license.

According to police, an officer familiar with Ghanem from past traffic stops recognized his car as one with an expired registration in the past. Police said a background check of the plate revealed that it was still expired, dating back to September 2011.

As a result, police said a traffic stop was made on Route 1 north by Bridgetown Road. Police said that while speaking to Ghanem, his car smelled strongly of marijuana.

According to police, Ghanem couldn’t provide them with an insurance card, and a background check revealed that his license was suspended on July 31 for failing to appear in court. As a result, he was arrested.

Police said an inventory of Ghanem’s car revealed a pizza, customer receipts from Kingston Pizza, four marijuana cigarettes and a small plastic bag with marijuana.

According to police, the marijuana was confiscated and Ghanem was charged. Police said employees from Kingston Pizza took the pizza and store receipts.

Police said Ghanem was processed at headquarters and then released at about 11:40 a.m. on Dec. 1.

Alcohol Violations

- Thomas D. Stacom, 20, of 14 Florida Ave., Jamestown, was cited at about 3:07 a.m. on Nov. 30 and charged with transportation of alcohol by a minor.

According to police, an officer was posted on Matunuck Beach Road because of a structure fire that limited traffic in and out of the area.

Police said that Stacom – the driver of a black Jeep – pulled on the shoulder and asked police if he could get through. However, police noted a bottle of Burnett’s Vodka and an open bottle of Harpoon Octoberfest beer while speaking to him.

As a result, the alcohol was confiscated and Stacom was cited. Police noted that Stacom’s breath smelled slightly of alcohol, but he showed no signs of impairment. He was allowed to drive from the scene at about 3:52 a.m.

- Four men were cited for possession of alcohol by a minor at about 9 p.m. on Nov. 30. Police identified the men as:

• Corey Capece, 20, of 22 Maureen Drive, Smithfield
• William Barrett Nunn, 19, of 13 Springvale Road, Croton on Hudson, NY
• Michael Mangiameme, 19, of 3180 Duckpond Road, Cutchogue, NY
• Tyler J. Ross, 20, of 73 Prospect Road, East Haven, CT

According to police, they received a call from an employee at Taco Bell and KFC. The employee told them that they noted an open can of beer in a car that passed through the drive thru, and the car was currently parked in the store’s lot.

Police said they found the car on Old Tower Hill Road, as it turned on to Route 1. A traffic stop was made on the on-ramp to Route 1.

According to police, the car smelled of alcohol, and an inventory revealed a bottle of Patron tequila, a bottle of Remy Martin cognac and an open can of Natural Ice beer.

Police said the alcohol was confiscated and destroyed, and all four were cited for possession of alcohol by a minor.

Smithfield Woman Charged With License Violation

Alicia Nichols, 21, of 27 Riverview Ave., Smithfield, was arrested at about 9:55 a.m. on Nov. 30 and charged with driving with a suspended license.

According to police, an officer in a marked police car noted a grey Dodge Durango backing out from a driveway on to Kingstown Road. The officer, traveling behind the Durango, then clocked it going 48 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone.

A traffic stop was made as a result. Police said the driver – Nichols – showed them a check and said she was going to “take care of” her license situation.

According to police, a background check confirmed that her license was suspended. She was arrested without incident, and also cited for speeding.

Police said Nichols was processed at headquarters and then released at about 11:03 a.m.
