SK Police Log: October 26, 2012

A University of Rhode Island student is charged with possession of marijuana and a switchblade.

URI Student Charged With Possession of Marijuana, Weapon

Alexander Mansi, 19, of 58 Jerimoth Drive, Branford, CT, was arrested at about 2:16 a.m. on Oct. 26 and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of a switchblade, and cited for possession of alcohol by a minor. Police said Mansi is a student at the University of Rhode Island.

According to police, an officer traveling near the Peacedale Library noted a passenger in a dark blue sedan hanging completely out and above the car. A traffic stop was made at the intersection of North Road and Emmett Lane.

Police said that the car smelled of alcohol, but the driver passed field sobriety tests. However, police said Mansi – the passenger hanging out the window – admitted to being the owner of a 30-pack of Keystone Light in the car.

According to police, a pat-down of Mansi also revealed a small baggie of marijuana, and he also told police he had a switchblade. Police said Mansi was charged with possession of both.

Police said Mansi was processed at headquarters and then released at about 3:08 a.m. The driver was allowed to leave the scene after passing field sobriety tests.
