Police said that when questioned about the incident, Richmond told them he hadn’t broken into the home because a 13-year-old girl had given him a key for it.

Richmond allegedly told police that while hanging out with his two cousins – the girl and a man in his 20s – and other “drug addicts” at an Old North Road home, the girl gave him a key to the house. The girl allegedly told Richmond that there was an ounce of weed under a bed.

According to police, Richmond told them that as he search for the weed, the owners of the property came home and he panicked. He told police that he hid in the basement for about 15 minutes, before noticing a window that was low enough for him to sneak out by.

Police said that consistent with Richmond’s story, he did not take prescription drugs and electronics in plain sight at the home. They did note that he drank a pomegranate juice and ate a bagel with peanut butter while at the home.

Felony screening is scheduled for May 21.

Richmond has one other citation – a South Kingstown police charge of possession of an alcoholic beverage by the minor – according to online records. A disposition in that case is scheduled for May 1.
