South Kingstown: Early Morning Fire Wednesday
Witnesses reported a fire on Briarwood Drive.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI—Crews went to a two-alarm fire at 17 Briarwood Drive around 12:40 a.m. on Wednesday, according to Deputy Chief Lance Whaley . The house was engulfed when firefighters arrived. All the people in the house escaped. The Union Fire District posted a photo on its Facebook page. One firefighter was injured and was treated at the scene.
"A piece of sheet rock came down on him," Whaley said. "It was minor."
The fire was under control quickly.

"It was a pretty quick knockdown," he said. The cause is still under investigation.
One Facebook user noted the bee hives in the photo. The resident is a beekeeper, Whaley said. The hives were in the back of the house.

"As far as I know, the bees are fine," he said. "They were flying around."
