South Kingstown Fire Department Offering $10k In Scholarships
The funding will be divided up among six students headed to a college, trade school or medical training program.
SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — Graduating high school seniors in South Kingstown can apply for up to $2,500 in scholarships from the town's fire departments. Union and Kingston fire districts are offering grants to six students, totaling $10,000.
"We thank the Town of South Kingstown for providing us with the ability to offer these scholarships this year," said Steven Pinch, the chief of the Union Fire District. "We are always excited when young members of our community join our ranks, and we look forward to offering several students with scholarships this year to help them pursue their interests after high school."
One student will receive $2,500, two $2,000, one $1,500 and two $1,000, the departments announced in a joint statement. Applications must be received by April 30 to qualify.

The scholarships are open to current South Kingstown firefighters and graduating high school seniors. To be eligible, students must meet one of the following requirements:
- Be a current member of the Union or Kingston fire department
- Be a relative of a current member of the above fire department
- Be a senior attending South Kingstown High School or the Prout School who is pursuiign a career in fire or emergency medicine.
The application can be completed online. Applicants must provide the name of a two- or four-year college, technical or trade school or accredited EMT or higher medical training program as well as a short essay of 300 words or fewer explaining what public service means to them.

A high school transcript will also be required, which must include the first semester senior grades if the applicant is a member of the Class of 2021. Transcripts can be emailed to skfirescholarships@gmail.com with the student's last name and "2021 South Kingstown Firefighter Scholarships" in the subject line.
