South Kingstown Paving On Old Tower Road Planned Next Week

The RI Department of Transportation in the Wakefield village work will begin on April 13.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — Lane shifts and periodic lane shifts are expected beginning on Monday as the Rhode Islands Department of Transportation begins a repaving project on Old Tower Road in South Kingstown. The $3.9-million project will repave the deteriorated roadway from the Route 1 interchange to the intersection with Dale Carlia Corner.

The project also includes storm water improvements, new curbing and ADA-compliant sidewalks, a bike lane in both directions and decorative planting. Two-way traffic is expected to be maintained, but there may be periodic lane closures and lane shifts during the full duration of the project, which is scheduled to be substantially completed by the end of the year.

The RI DOT said the road carries about 17,400 vehicles per day during typical traffic days.
