South Kingstown Raises Parking Fines Near Beaches
In an effort to cut down on illegal parking due to decreased lot capacity at state beaches, fines have been raised from $25 to $150.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — Anticipating an increase in illegal parking near beaches, the town of South Kingstown raised parking fees in certain areas from $25 to $150.
The announcement came after Gov. Gina Raimondo announced that parking lots at Misquamicut and Scarborough State Beaches would be lowered to just 25 percent capacity, in an effort to reduce crowding. Town officials were concerned about traffic and crowd control at East Matunuck state beach.
The increased fees apply to all of Succotash Road, Jerusalem the state pier and all roads adjacent to those listed previously. Residents and businesses in these areas will not be impacted by the fines if there is not enough off-street parking available. It will remain in effect until Aug. 11 unless otherwise noted.
