Eleven restaurants and bakeries around Rhode Island will be taking part in a sweet fundraiser to support breast cancer care and research starting on Mother's Day. During the week-long fundraiser, all sales of a certain dessert will go to Bakes For Breast Cancer, a nonprofit organization. This year's proceeds will support research by Dr. Rachel Freedman at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Freeman's research and clinical trials will focus on older patients, where research and funding are limited.

The Rhode Island Bakes For Breast Cancer organization was created in 2000 by Carol Brownman Sneider, in memory of her mother, Eva Brownman, who died from the disease. Since it was founded, the foundation has raised more than $1 million.
