Even though the coronavirus pandemic is still limiting travel and activities, there are plenty of fun things to do this spring break.
It's April vacation week in Rhode Island, thanks to the statewide calendar put in place for all public schools during the coronavirus pandemic. Although travel and large events are still pretty much off-limits, there are plenty of fun things to do in Rhode Island to get the family out of the house.

The Preservation Society of Newport County just reopened this Portsmouth gem for the season. The sprawling outdoor landscape features lush gardens and artistic topiary displays. Special ticket packages allow visitors access to all outdoor areas of the society's properties, including the Newport mansions. Perfect for picnics!

Alongside the usual daytime fun, the zoo is currently offering nighttime tickets for the Asian Lantern Spectacular, an evening display of dozens of handcrafted animal-shaped lanterns.

A popular pandemic activity, Rhode Islanders can get outside this spring break while keeping their distance. Remember to dress in layers if it's chilly, wear a mask when around other people and wear sturdy shoes to protect feet and ankles on potentially slippery trails. The rink is offering special events and discounts for April vacation. Safety measures are in place, including Plexiglass barriers at registers and air filtration systems that have been upgraded to allow for better circulation, the company said. In addition, all rentals are disinfected after each use and high-touch are sanitized frequently. Tickets can be purchased online.
