Timothy M. F. Laffey, Air Force Veteran, Dies at 53

Timothy M. F. Laffey volunteered for the Wakefield Fire District. He dies on Wednesday, June 30. He was 53.

Timothy Mark Francis Laffey, 53, formerly of Wakefield, died at his home on June 30, 2013 with his family and faithful dog April at his side.

He was the beloved son of Joseph Laffey of Narragansett and the late Mary Geraghty Laffey, and is survived by his father, Joseph along with 9 brothers and sisters, 18 nieces and nephews, and 9 great nieces and nephews.

Mr. Laffey was a four-year veteran of the Air Force, serving proudly as a C-141 Cargo Aircraft Loadmaster at Travis Air Force Base, California from 1984 to 1988. During his Air Force Service he also was assigned as a logistics support mechanic for the prestigious Thunderbird Aerial Performance Show Team.

Mr. Laffey was an accomplished commercial fisherman, tradesman and journeyman in both manufacturing, and residential construction as a carpenter, and most recently as a professional driver of heavy equipment for the last decade for Cullian Concrete Company.

He was also a volunteer Fireman for the Wakefield Fire Department. Tim enjoyed gardening, golfing, his work, and was a lifelong fan of his beloved Boston Red Sox. He was a kind, caring and gentle soul to all who knew him. He was loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate and give thanks for the life of Timothy Mark Francis Laffey will be held at St Francis of Assisi, Wakefield, Monday, July 8, at 11 a.m.

Visiting hours will be held at Avery-Storti Funeral Home, on Sunday July 7, from 4 - 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island 1085 North Main St, Providence, RI 02904 or The Comprehensive Cancer Center at The Miriam Hospital 164 Summit Ave, Providence, RI 02906. Burial arrangements will be held privately with family along with Military Honors.
