Tiverton Middle School Welcomes New Principal

Susan Craven is the new principal at Tiverton Middle School.

TIVERTON, RI — The Tiverton School Department is proud to welcome Mrs. Susan Craven as the Principal of Tiverton Middle School. Craven was officially appointed to the position at Tuesday’s school committee meeting where she briefly addressed the crowd of parents, teachers and community members. Prior to her 19 years in education, Mrs. Craven worked for the State Attorney General’s office as a paralegal in both the Criminal and Narcotics division before turning to education.

She comes to the district from the Narragansett School Department with her latest role being the
district’s Literacy Coach. Craven also held the office of Vice President and later was elected President of
the National Education Association (NEA) of Narragansett for the past 10 years. A graduate of Rhode
Island College, Mrs. Craven earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and expressed her
enthusiasm toward taking the lead at the Middle School level. Ms. Craven visited TMS stating, “I like to
say that I am hitting the ground learning, taking the time to get to know the school, parents and students.”

Married to her husband Bob for 25 years, they are the proud parents of two sons, one currently attending
his last year at Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law and the other attending Duke
University. She will join the Tiverton Middle School team starting early August.
