Residential Pools
The Building Department is beginning to receive an abundant amount of Building Permit applications for the installation of residential swimming pools. Â The spring season is historically the busiest time for above-ground and in-ground pool plans to be brought before our office for review.
It is important for homeowners and contractors to understand the placement of a pool must comply with required setbacks from property lines, wetlands, and septic system components. Some setbacks may vary depending on the municipality, so it is advisable to contact the Building Department prior to submitting application to verify these setbacks.
It is imperative to be aware that all pools, for the duration of existence, must maintain a code compliant safety barrier to provide protection against potential drowning. Â It is the responsibility of the property owner to ensure the pool barrier is maintained and in good working order. Â
Literature relative to the permitting process and code requirements for residential pools can be found on our department website. Â If there are any questions, please contact our office at 401-789-9331 Ext. 1228
