
KINGSTON, RI — A University of Rhode Island student died following a crash on Interstate 95 in Attleboro on Friday night. Erica Hopkins, 22, was a junior studying psychology.
The East Providence woman was "caring, loving and hard working," a statement from URI said. Hopkins was a member of the Talent Development program and part of PINK Women (Powerful, Independent, Notoriously Knowledgeable Woman).
The crash happened on I-95 South around 11 p.m. on Sept. 13. The driver, a 24-year-old man, and Hopkins were driving in a 2009 Volvo C70 when he lost control, causing the car to crash and come to rest across the middle and left lanes. A 17-year-old driver in a a 2009 Volvo C70 hit them, throwing both from the car. They were then hit by a car, though Massachusetts State Police said they were not sure if it was the BMW or their own car.

Hopkins and the unidentified driver were taken to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries. She died the next day. The condition of the driver is not known.
Services will be held at the Perry-McStay Funeral Home at 2555 Pawtucket Ave. in East Providence. A visitation will be held from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, followed by a service. The burial will be private.
