Tyler A. Casey, 20, of 12 Linden Road, Narragansett, was arrested at about 3:28 a.m. on Nov. 3 and charged with felony drug possession and drunken driving, and also cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test and transportation of alcohol by a minor. Police said Casey is a student at the University of Rhode Island.

According to police, an officer stationed at Fraternity Circle observed a silver Acura revving its engine and driving erratically in the area. A traffic stop was made in front of the Kingston Inn on Kingstown Road.

Police said that when the driver – Casey – was asked about why he was going so fast, he said that he always drives that fast. Police noted that he smelled strongly of alcohol and admitted to having one or two drinks.

According to police, Casey was dressed as a lifeguard because of a Halloween party. Police said Casey failed field sobriety tests, and he was arrested and charged with drunken driving as a result.

Police said an inventory of Casey’s car revealed a bottle of vodka and a Tupperware bowl with a small plastic baggie. The baggie had a white powder in it. Police said that Casey later told them it was Ecstasy, which he had bought for $60 for one gram.

Casey was processed and then released at about 10:05 a.m.

According to online records, Casey has one previous arrest. On Sept. 18, a Narragansett police charge of possession of marijuana was dismissed, in return for a donation to the Violent Crimes Indemnity Fund. (Note: This is a typical result for a non-violent first-time drug offense in Rhode Island.)

Casey is scheduled to appear for felony screening for the ecstasy charge on Dec. 14.
