Wakefield Man, 28, Injured In Richmond Hunting Accident

The man's hunting partner was using buckshot, which is illegal in Rhode Island.

RICHMOND, RI — A Wakefield man was injured in a hunting accident Thursday, according to the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management.

The unidentified 28-year-old man and his partner were deer hunting in the woods near Shannock Hill Road in Richmond around 3 p.m., the DEM said. This area, part of deer management zone two, closed to deer hunting Dec. 13 and will reopen the week between Christmas and New Year's. At that time, it will be open to doe hunting only.

The hunting partner was using buckshot, which is illegal in Rhode Island. The man was hit in his lower back and buttocks. His current condition is unknown.

The Environmental Police seized the guns, and are investigating the incident along with the Richmond Police Department.
