Coronavirus: Ocean State Job Lot, PawSox Hold Food Drive

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — Volunteers from Ocean State Job Lot, the Pawtucket Red Sox and the city of Pawtucket teamed up to deliver 1,200 food packages to state residents. the drive-thru food distribution event took place at McCoy Stadium.

The packages included fresh fruits and vegatables, bread and dairy projects. Thirty volunteers helped deliver the packages directly to cars in accordance with state social distancing deadlines.

"Our goal was to serve 200 people and thanks to some great teamwork, were able to reach more than 1,200 members of the community in need," said David Sarlitto, Executive Director, Ocean State Job Lot Charitable Foundation. "Within 36 hours of my call with Mike Tamburro at the PawSox, the mayor (of Pawtucket), the police department, emergency management, volunteers, everyone needed to make this happen were connected and the event was off and running. We are so grateful to the PawSox and Mayor Grebien for helping us to create this important initiative during such a difficult time.”

Ocean State Job Lot on Tuesday announced that it would be providing displays of fabric, free of charge, to customers for use in homemade face masks.

"The Pawtucket Red Sox are pleased to join our friends at the Ocean State Job Lot Charitable Foundation in providing this food assistance program to our community. These unique times challenge all of us to lend a helping hand. We are proud to do our small part," said Mike Tamburro, PawSox Vice Chairman.
