Dave's Marketplace Recalling Frozen Tuna Steaks

Routine sampling at the state health labs detected elevated histamine levels, which could cause illness.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — Dave's is recalling frozen tuna steaks sold on or after March 23. According to the state health department, elevated histamine levels were detected during routine surveillance sampling at the state health laboratories. The 10 oz Frozen Tuna King tuna steaks are individually wrapped. They are a wild-caught product from Vietnam. Customers are eligible for a full refund.

"When consumed in food, histamine can result in symptoms including tingling or burning in the mouth, facial swelling, rashes, hives and itchy skin, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea," the health department said. "Anyone experiencing these symptoms after consuming frozen Tuna King tuna steaks from Dave’s Marketplace should seek medical attention. Young children, elderly people, individuals who are immuno-compromised, and pregnant women are particularly susceptible to food borne illness. At this time, there have not been any reports of illnesses associated with this recall."
