Electric Boat Quonset Point Employee Killed In Workplace Accident

The employee was critically injured when his body became pinned between a mechanical lift and a submarine hull.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — An Electric Boat Quonset Point employee died Tuesday morning from injuries sustained in a workplace accident, reported WPRI.

The incident took place at approximately 8 a.m. in Bay 2, said Quonset Point Vice President Sean Davies. The employee wasusing a mechanical lift to weld a submarine hull when his body became pinned between the lift and hull.

The employee was treated on scene by first responders and transported to Kent County Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

“We are extremely saddened by this loss and I know that you all share in this grief,” said the company in a statement. “The Quonset team is a tight-knit group, and we will all feel the effects of this incident for quite some time. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of our colleague.”

The man’s name has not yet been released and the incident remains under investigation.
