Independent, Newport Daily News To Be Sold To Gate House Media
The Independent, the Newport Daily News and the Mercury are part of the sale.
SOUTH KINGSTOWN — The Independent, which covers Narragansett, South Kingstown and North Kingstown, the Newport Daily News and the Mercury are being sold to Gate House, the same company that owns the Providence Journal. The sale is to be finalized Nov. 1. Gate House also owns the Portsmouth (N.H.) Herald, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette and community newspapers.
