The split is expected to be in place for two months while the structurally deficient Stony Lane Bridge is fortified.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — A lane split at the Stony Lane Bridge on Route 4 in North Kingstown is scheduled to begin on the structurally deficient bridge starting on Friday.

The split in both directions is expected to be in place for two months as part of bridge restoration work.

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation said the split will be located between Exit 3 (Route 102/Wickford) and Exit 5 (Route 2/South County Trail) where Route 4 passes over Stony Lane. Lanes will be maintained with motorists asked to reduce speed and not change lanes.
