NK Resident In Running For Pillsbury Finals – Needs Votes

Mary Jo Fletcher LaRocco of North Kingstown didn’t start cooking until she had to, after she went to live in Sarajevo as a young woman. Now she’s hoping to get enough votes to qualify for the finals in the grand dame of cooking contests, the Pillsbury Cook-Off.

The Narragansett Chamber of Commerce has rescinded its letter to the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission opposing an application by Rhode Island Fast Ferry to provide ferry service from Quonset to Block Island, according to the Providence Journal.

Wickford’s Hussey Memorial Bridge is a village icon as well as a lifeline for the thousands of people who travel it every day. It’s also one of six bridges in Rhode Island deemed “structurally deficient” (in poor condition) and “fracture critical” (a bridge with a tension element, whose failure could cause the bridge to collapse) by the Federal Highway Administration.

The Department of Environmental Management and the Rhode Island Department of Health announced Wednesday that test results from three mosquito pools, including one in North Kingstown, tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV).

North Kingstown is updating its Comprehensive Plan, the town’s blueprint for the future, and it wants to hear from residents and those own a business or work in NK. The Town of North Kingstown is about to send out surveys to the more than 300 residents of the Shore Acres neighborhood, asking them if they want sewers and other related questions.
