Man Dies After Jumping From North Kingstown Bridge

The victim reportedly jumped from the Jamestown Verrazzano Bridge around 5 p.m. Sunday.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — A man has died after jumping from the Jamestown Verrazzano Bridge in North Kingstown Sunday evening, reported The Boston Globe.

The North Kingstown Police and Fire Departments responded to reports of a person who jumped from the bridge around 5 p.m. Upon arrival, first responders determined that a middle-aged man had already jumped.

The Narraganset Bay Marine Task Force and the North Kingstown Marine 5 immediately conducted a search and found the victim. He was brought to Wickford Town Dock where first responders attempted to resuscitate him. The man was later pronounced dead at Kent County Hospital.

Local advocates have been pushing for suicide-prevention barriers on several bridges, including the Jamestown Verrazzano Bridge, due to an increase in reported jumping since the beginning of April.
