Dr. John Steele of Brown University will discuss this land known as the cradle of civilization, the innovations that took place here and the legacy these early cultures had on future societies. ‘Feng Shui For Beauty’ workshop: Best selling author Jayme Barrett is in East Greenwich Wednesday to present “Feng Shui For Beauty,” a workshop, from 7 to 9 p.m. You’ll learn more about Jayme and the workshops here.

Dare to Educate Afghan Girls: Shabana Basij Rasikh, co-founder of the School of Leadership Afghanistan (SOLA), a boarding school that provides educational opportunities for a new generation of Afghan women, will speak at Salve Regina in Newport Wednesday evening. During college, Shabana founded HELA, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering Afghan women through education. She currently serves as the National Gender Mainstreaming Advisor at the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development in Kabul. 7 p.m. at the Bazarsky Lecture Hall. Free.
