NK Bakers Return From Pillsbury Bake0ff Unribboned But Happy

Mary Jo LaRocca and Nancy Fahey made it all the way to the finals in Las Vegas.

Mary Jo LaRocca had a killer Sausage, Apple & Brie Stromboli and Nancy Fahey had classic Almond Cafe Cookies. Both North Kingstown women made it all the way to the Pillsbury Bakeoff finals in Las Vegas with recipes they submitted to the annual contest. Neither came home the grand prize winner (which was a cool $1 million) but they sure did NK proud by getting so far.

Here’s LaRocca’s recollection of the trip:

“The 46th Pillsbury Bakeoff Contest in Las Vegas was an incredible experience!  I was so surprised and thrilled to become a finalist. It was my first year to enter and I only submitted one recipe so I was truly delighted to get in.

“I had heard that Pillsbury really knows how to throw a party … and I can now confirm that rumor is true!  We had two and a half days of amazing buffets, receptions, and then the final smashing awards dinner including a walk on the blue carpet and photos with a golden doughboy.

“The Pillsbury staff is first class on all levels of operation and the finalists were a wonderful group – so many new friendships were made and it was so incredibly fun.

“I had a blast on the Bakeoff floor. My dish came out the best I’ve ever made it so regardless of whether or not it won anything, I was completely satisfied with that. My husband watched the kids so I could go to Vegas with my sister … a perfect girls weekend away at the Aria with memories to keep for a lifetime.  Thank you, Pillsbury!  I’ll definitely be submitting something in 2014 with hopes of getting to go to the 47th Bakeoff Contest to be held in Nashville!  An experience no one would want to miss!”
