NK School Committee Candidate Wins Nod From Bill Weld

The former Bay State governor has endorsed Tony Jones for school committee. Jones was appointed to the seat to fill a vacancy.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI—This summer Tony Jones became the first Moderate party candidate in office when the North Kingstown Town Council appointed him to fill a vacancy on the school committee. Jones, who is also the North Kingstown Patch's volunteer Mayor, had already thrown his hat in the ring and is hoping to win a new term in the Nov. 6 election.

So far, he has already won an endorsement from former Massachusetts Gov. William Weld.

"As Governor of Massachusetts I made education reform a key goal," Weld wrote. "Tony Jones, a candidate for School Committee in Rhode Island, will change things for the better. His focus on improving access to Vocational and Technical Schools, as well as Charter school options, will do great things for the educational system in his area. I proudly endorse Tony Jones for School Committee."
