NK Town Council Candidate Stacey Elliott

She stands for "sensible development, environmentally responsible policies," money for schools and rec, and support for first responders.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — Town council candidate Stacey Elliott, 28, is running because she wants the town's political leaders to change direction. Elliott will bring a "different perspective," she said, including some advocacy for the north end, she said.

"There are not a lot of young voices" on this council, she pointed out. The incumbents don't have young children at home, and recreation and school issues haven't grabbed their attention.

This campaign is her first run for political office, but she's by no means a newcomer to North Kingstown, she said.

She sees a lot of environmental and development issues facing the town, including issues around "greenlands, woodlands, the solar panel ordinance."

According to her campaign brochure, she stands for "sensible development, environmentally responsible policies, funding for education and recreation, and support for first responders."

"This town council doesn't jell well together," she said, and she'd like to change that.
