NKHS Runners Costume Up, Win Cash

Last Sunday, more than 30 North Kingstown High School students participated in the fifth annual Tufts Health Plan High School Inspirational 3k run in Providence and came away with the $750 Spirit Award for their very orange, very fun costumes. 

The money will go toward uniforms for the NKHS track team. 

Roughly 1,400 high school students from Rhode Island participated in the event, which is part of the CVS Caremark Downtown 5k, Rhode Island’s largest road race. The high school race is encouraged student-athletes to show off their school spirit by wearing creative and fun costumes, followed by a 3k run in downtown Providence.

Inspirational 3k runners included dozens of high school track and cross-country teams who raced in creative school spirit costumes, showing that living healthy lifestyles can be fun. North Kingstown High School students, who raced in coordinating construction-themed attire, stood out to the judges and won this year’s spirit contest.

“Tufts Health Plan is committed to improving the health and wellness of our community, and we know that embracing healthy habits at an early age is key to life-long wellness,” said Brian Pagliaro, senior vice president of sales, marketing and client services at Tufts Health Plan. “We’re thrilled to host this fun event with local student-athletes to celebrate just that.”
