North Kingstown Voters Turn Down Town Hall Bond

North Kingstown voters overwhelmingly defeated a bond to fund improvements to the town hall and Memorial Park. The second question passed.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — North Kingstown voters approved just one of the bond questions on Tuesday's ballot. The first question, concerning improvements to the town hall, was defeated. The second question was approved.

Tuesday night's results from the North Kingstown Board of Canvassers are considered unofficial because they have not yet been certified by the state Board of Elections. Here's the tally of votes for each question.

Question 1: $7.5 million for Town Hall improvements
Yes: 1,749
No: 2,423

Question 1: 25-year renewable energy contract
Yes: 2,776
No: 1,395

According to the Rhode Island Board of Elections, 3,778 voters had checked in as of 8 p.m., when the polls closed. According to Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea's office, there are 23,546 registered voters in the town.

North Kingstown was one of just two towns in Rhode Island to have bond questions on the ballot on Tuesday.
