North Kingstown Asset Management Commission Supports Question 2
The Asset Management Commission supports the passage of Question 2 and the land lease for the solar electric project on November 5, 2019.
We, members of the North Kingstown Asset Management Commission, are writing to express our wholehearted support for the passage of the local ballot question number 2.
If approved, this question will allow for the Town to enter into a 25-year lease with a private developer to install solar electric panels on two town properties: 395 Hamilton Allenton Road, Plat 80, Lot 1 and 480 Oak Hill Road, Plat 97, Lot 1. Without voter approval the Town is only able to enter into leases for a period no greater than 10 years. This will allow for the town and the developer to enter into an agreement to match the life of the equipment being installed.
Currently, these two properties are a closed town landfill and a town water supply well head. The energy produced by these solar panels will allow for North Kingstown to receive a credit to offset the expenditures for energy consumption. It is anticipated that the amount of energy produced by these panels will be more than what is presently necessary for the use of Town governmental operations. The lessee will sell any excess energy produced to the grid and will compensate the Town.
