North Kingstown Hiring Public Safety Dispatcher

As part of a consolidation of police and fire communications, North Kingstown is looking for a dispatcher.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — North Kingstown is hiring a public safety dispatcher as part of its consolidation of the police and fire emergency dispatching operations. North Kingstown fire said the consolidation is an effort to provide a better service to the residents and the public safety personnel served.

This full-time position includes a 14-day cycle that includes two days of 12-hour shifts, followed by two days off, followed by three 12-hour shifts, followed by two days off, followed by two 12-hour shifts, followed by three days off. Dispatchers work under the direction for the shift supervisors to accurately receive and communicate messages on emergencies and non-emergencies to Rhode Island Emergency Management, fire, police and hospitals.

Dispatchers also monitor prisoners in the cell block area and holding room, and monitor town hall, the pubic safety building and high school via closed-circuit television. Dispatchers also perform clerical duties and deal with walk-in complaints.

Successful applications must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, must be able to type 20 words a minute and should have experience with Microsoft Office. Salary is $22.71 per hour.

Application process will include, but not limited to, a written test, practical exercise, oral interview, physical examination, hearing exam, drug screening and extensive background check.
