NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI—The rain has put a damper on Memorial Day Parades planned Monday in Rhode Island.
North Kingstown's parade has been cancelled due to the rain, which could become heavy at times and deliver localized flooding in some areas. Period of torrential rains could end up delivering 1- to 2-inches of rain by the end of the day, according to the National Weather Service.
Nearby South Kingstown and East Greenwich have also canceled planned parades.

The parade cancellation does not mean there will be no observances of Memorial Day in North Kingstown. The wreath laying ceremonies planned for 9 a.m. at Veteran's Memorial Park and at 11 a.m. at the Elmgrove Cemetery will both take place.
