Obituary: David Raymond Beattie, 62

David Raymond Beattie, 62, of North Kingstown, passed away Thursday, November 14. He was the beloved husband of Jane A. (MacKay) Beattie, to whom he has been married for 40 years. Born in Somerville, Mass., he was the son of the late Richard and Muriel (Raymond) Beattie, and has been a resident of North Kingstown for the past 27 years.

Mr. Beattie had been a commodities buyer and manager for the Arnold Lumber Company, Kingston, and had previously been employed by the Grossman Lumber Company for 25 years. He was a member of the Rhode Island Lumber Dealers Assoc., where he was honored in 2012 as “Lumberman of the Year,” the national organization NRLA, and was an avid sports fan, enjoyed fishing and had a special love for his grandchildren who called him “Beepa,” and his best friend “Bailee,” his dog.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, David E. Beattie of West Warwick and Christopher M. Beattie and his wife, Heather, of Saunderstown; and his three grandchildren Evan, Blake and Hannah Beattie. He was the beloved brother of Richard Beattie of Atlanta, Ga., and brother-in-law of Charlene and Michael Szloch. He was the brother of the late Susan M. Butler.

His funeral service will be held, Monday, Nov.18, at 9 a.m. from the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown, followed by a service in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at 10 a.m., 383 Old North Road, Kingston. Calling Hours will be held Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Greenwich. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the Animal Rescue League of Southern R.I., P.O. Box 458, Wakefield, RI, 02880, or The Salvation Army will be appreciated.
