Obituary: William J. "Bill" Glover, 78

William J.  “Bill” Glover, 78, retired R.I. State Marshall, passed away unexpectedly Oct. 15. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy A. (MacLaughlin) Glover for 50 years, and son of the late Robert H. and Margaret (Knowles) Glover. 

He is survived by his daughters Melissa A. Smith and her husband Douglas and Brenda E. Glover; four grandsons, Andrew, James, and Matthew Smith and Ian Glover and one granddaughter Jennifer (Smith) Tavino.  He's also survived by four great-granddaughters Alexandra Lewis, Jasmin, Anna, and Rylie Smith and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. 

He was a graduate of North Kingstown High School and Roger Williams University. 

Bill was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police since 1961. He started in the FOP while a member of the North Kingstown Police Department. Bill served as President of Lodge # 24, Secretary of R.I. State Lodge for eight years and was a member of the State Lodge Executive Board for four years. 

He was member of Slocum Grange #36 and Washington County Pomona Grange. He was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church serving as a Reader, Acolyte and Usher for many years. Bill also enjoyed 12 years as a bus monitor for the North Kingstown School Department and loved his “kids.” He was a member of the North Kingstown Lions Club, and Post 15 American Legion. 

He was preceded in death by his brothers Robert, Frank and Howard Glover. 

A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated Saturday, Oct. 19, at 10 a.m. in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 55 Main St., North Kingstown. Burial will follow in Elm Grove Cemetery, North Kingstown. Visiting hours are Friday 4 to 7 p.m. in the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 55 Main St., North Kingstown, R.I. 02852.
