Police Log: An Arrest-Filled Saturday

Thursday, Aug. 29

7:05 p.m. – Police were called to the Irving Gas station on Post Road because of man there who appeared to be drunk. The man had left by the time police arrived, but they found him walking by the Home Goods store near Dave's. The man said he was walking home, but was going in the opposite direction and appeared to be very drunk, so NKFD was called and he was taken to Kent Hospital for evaluation.

Friday, Aug. 30

2:48 a.m. – A Williams Street resident reported his cars had been broken into. He said his neighbor had contacted him after seeing people going into the cars, which were parked in his driveway. The Williams Street man said he immediately went outside and saw a dark SUV driving away on Earle Drive toward Boston Neck Road. Checking the two cars, he found only a small amount of cash missing from them. On Russell Drive, two other residents said their cars had been broken into. One of the residents said less than $5 had been taken, the other said nothing seemed to be missing. In both cases, the contents of the glove compartments had been emptied onto the passenger seat. Police noticed the Russell Drive cars because the interior lights had been left on. Neither owner had not been awake when the break-ins occurred. 

12:38 p.m. – An East Greenwich man told police someone broke into his locker at the YMCA on Post Road while he was working out there. He said he'd used a combination lock to secure his clothes and wallet but when he returned to the locker room, the lock and his wallet were gone.

3:25 p.m. – The manager of Wickford Marina told police a dock cart had gone missing and was presumed stolen. The cart, a bright blue Muller's Smart Cart, disappeared sometime between 5 and 9:15 p.m. Thursday.

10:54 p.m. – Police were called to an Devil's Foot Road apartment by neighbors reporting a fight between a man and a woman in which the woman yelled for help, saying the man "is going to kill me!" The neighbor then saw the woman leave the apartment bleeding from near her ear, followed by the man, who had blood on his arms and hands and told the neighbor, "You better not call the cops!" Finding no one at the apartment, police went to the man's known address on Aspen Court, where they found the couple talking in a car in the driveway. The woman told police she'd injured herself in a fall during an argument. The man said the argument had been verbal only. Police told the woman they would be notifying the department's domestic violence advocate for a follow up.

Saturday, Aug. 31

1:48 a.m. – Police arrested Lisa M. Green, 36, of Asqah Drive, for driving while intoxicated and refusing to take a chemical test to measure the amount of alcohol in her blood after she was stopped on Post Road for weaving between lanes. Green told police she'd been at a bar in East Greenwich and was driving home. According to the report, police smelled a strong odor of alcohol on Green's breath. After allegedly failing a field sobriety test, Green was taken into custody. At the station, Green refused to take the chemical breath test, according to reports. She was given court summons and released to a friend.

4:19 a.m. – Police arrested David A. Richard, 51, of Post Road, on a bench warrant after his roommate called police, saying Richard was drunk and behaving belligerently. Routine checks turned up the warrant, so police took Richard into custody and delivered him to the ACI. 

10:04 a.m. – Police arrested Roy Lincoln Smith, 45, of Forbes Street in West Hartford, Conn., for driving with a suspended license and a Fourth District Court bench warrant after he was pulled over on Scrabbletown Road because his car did not have an inspection sticker. Routine checks turned up his registration was suspended, as was his Connecticut driver's license. The warrant was for failing to appear at a court date. He was taken into custody and delivered to the ACI.

12:49 p.m. – Police arrested Joan Susan Anderson, 61, of Post Road in East Greenwich, for shoplifting after she allegedly tried to take several items at Kohl's. According to a Kohl's employee, Anderson went into a dressing room with some items and a flat purse and came out with only one item and a bulging purse. She then walked out of the store but was stopped outside by the employee. Anderson was taken into custody, processed at the station and released with a District Court summons.
