Potential Tropical Storm Heading RI's Way

Forecasters are keeping tabs on a low-pressure system that has a strong chance of turning into at least a tropical depression as it spins toward New England.

Massachusetts could get walloped this weekend, according to some forecasts. A flash flood watch has been issued until Saturday at noon.

The National Weather Service said flash flooding is the "main threat" from Friday night into Saturday morning. Where that is likely to occur will depend on how the system develops.

There is still uncertainty as to the timing and track of the storm, but AccuWeather has it landing in the Bay State around mid-afternoon Friday.

The Weather Channel said the system, which if it becomes a tropical storm would be named Fay, could drop 1-2 inches in Massachusetts. As of right now, the system is going by Invest 98L.
