Rhode Island VFW Hosts Veterans Resource Fair

Rhode Island Veterans of Foreign War will host a Veterans Resource Fair this Saturday, June 1st, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

North Kingstown RI- Rhode Island Veterans of Foreign War will host a Veterans Resource Fair this Saturday, June 1st, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Radisson Hotel Providence Airport. The event is free and open to all Active Duty, Reserve, Veterans and Families. This is a great opportunity to connect the Rhode Island military community, veterans and their families with the RI Department of Veterans Affairs, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), as well as 37 organizations specializing in a variety of available services.

“Many see VFW Posts putting on public programs and providing function halls, but we do much more than that,” said Mike Carter, in-coming RI State VFW Commander. “Our Post and auxiliaries raise money for area families, and our posts provide important help to our communities. This Veterans Resource Fair is an opportunity to showcase our mission, and more importantly, help our brothers and sisters who have served.”

Connecting veterans with the services available to them is sometimes challenging and the resource fair is designed to increase outreach efforts.

“During my time as a Post Commander, I have talked to so many veterans who have said things like, ‘I had no idea I was eligible,’ or ‘I wish I would have done this sooner,’” said David Ainslie, Town of North Kingstown Veterans Representative and VFW Post Commander. “We just don’t want to hear that anymore. We want those vets to come in now, so we can help them get the most from the benefits they have earned serving our country. And this Resource Fair will make it easy for them – they can get a lot of information and assistance all at one location.”

The Veterans Resource Fair will feature representatives from numerous local, state and federal organizations that can assist veterans, military service members, and their dependents. This will be a one-stop shop where veterans and their families can meet with representatives to discuss topics and gather information regarding disability and compensation claims, determine eligibility for VA healthcare, provide information about VA burial assistance programs, and mental health services, education benefits, employment opportunity and training to name a few.
