RI State Police: Roads Dangerous And More Accidents To Report

State police said one person suffered minor injuries in a crash Tuesday, and one was trapped under a car waiting for National Grid.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — As of late Tuesday morning, state police had few traffic accidents to report possibly because drivers and truckers have listened to warnings and stayed off the roads. But that situation changed after 1 p.m.

"At least seven additional crashes were reported between 1:30 and 4:30 p.m., state police said. "Troopers also responded to reports of 19 disabled vehicles, including many that skidded off the roads."

No one was seriously hurt.

"Troopers have issued several summonses to truck drivers found to be driving in Rhode Island after the ban was imposed," state police said. The ban started at 4 a.m.

"Traffic in both directions on Route 165 in Exeter remains blocked because of downed power lines on Ten Rod Road at Beach Road, near the Connecticut state lane," state police said. "Another incident involved a motorist who was trapped inside a car after power lines fell onto the vehicle on Mail Road in Exeter, forcing the driver to remain in the vehicle until crews from National Grid were able to respond."
