Traffic Delays Expected On Route 4 In North Kingstown

The closures on North Kingstown's Lafayette Road bridge will allow for construction on the bridge.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — Traffic delays are expected on Route 4 during bridge construction coming to the Lafayette Road bridge. From Nov. 1 to Nov. 4., traffic will be down to one lane in each direction. During this time, the Department of Transportation will replace the southbound side of the bridge.

Transportation officials ask that drivers plan ahead and expect delays. Traffic pattern will be similar to lane closures that were put in place in September.

The Lafayette Road bridge was built in 1988 and is deemed structurally deficient. It carries approximately 56,000 vehicles a day. The $8.7 million construction projectis expected to be finished by summer 2020.
