Wickford Sewer Construction Update

West Main Street up to Post Road will be open to local traffic only

Here is the latest sewer construction related update from the North Kingstown Department of Public Works:

- Construction of sewers on West Main Street up to Post Road means that the road will continue to be closed to through traffic during the weekdays from 7 AM to 5 PM. The road will be open to local traffic only, and in the evenings. The town will continue to temporarily allow two-way traffic from Tower Hill Road onto the one-way portion of Boone Street to relieve traffic congestion.

- Starting May 14th, the western side of Post Road, as well as Phillips, Brown and Main Streets will be milled and receive final pavement (weather permitting!). The work will be done at night. RIDOT will allow the town to pave only the section of West Main Street up to Cranston’s Funeral Home now. The final pavement for the rest of West Main Street will be completed in the autumn.

- The sidewalks which were excavated for the sewer laterals will be restored in the autumn, by which time we expect the properties to be connected to the sewers.

- May 1 is the anticipated date to begin connecting to sewers for downtown Wickford. Grinder pumps, for those on the low pressure sewer, will be available April 30th to licensed drainlayers at the Department of Public Works.

- West Main Street from Brown Street to Newtown Avenue will be accessible to traffic via Brown Street.
