Portsmouth Boy Scouts Celebrate 49 Years of Scouting

Portsmouth's Boy Scout Troop 82 celebrates 49 years of Scouting

On January 10th, Boy Scout Troop 82 celebrated 49 years of scouting on Aquidneck Island by holding its annual dinner at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Portsmouth.  Guests viewed a montage of photographs depicting the past year’s scouting activities, enjoyed delicious food, and perused scout historical photo albums dating back as far as the 1940s.  The evening culminated with Troop 82’s Scoutmaster, Justin Mostert (second from left in photo), presenting the annual scouting awards, recognizing those who have contributed greatly to Troop82.

And, this year the award goes to....

The Paul “Trey” Houtchens Camper Award:  Trey was a scout in Troop 82, who really loved the camping part of the program.  He died tragically of Eastern Equine Encephalitis before earning the rank of Eagle Scout.  This award recognizes the scout who has camped out the most days in a year.  This year’s recipient is Life Scout Bobby Zeller.  (third from left in photo)
