Applications Open For Summer Jobs In Portsmouth
The town is looking for day camp counselors, lifeguards and beach attendants.

PORTSMOUTH, RI — It's still about a month until the beginning of spring, but the Town of Portsmouth is already looking ahead to summer. Applications are now open for seasonal summer jobs, including lifeguards and parking gate attendants.
High school students are welcome to apply to the positions, which are open to anyone ages 16 and up. Completed applications can be delivered in person to the town's human resources department or emailed to lpuglia@portsmouthri.com. All applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on May 14.
Lifeguard: Sandy Point Beach
- All lifeguards must have a valid training card for first aid, community CPR and lifesaving from an accredited organization
- Must be a certified lifeguard in the state through the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management with a certification of non-surf or higher
- Responsible for the safety of all beachgoers
- Schedule varies, 15 to 30 hours per week as determined by recreation director. Some weekends may be required.
Gate Attendant: Sandy Point Beach
- No previous experience required
- Responsible for collecting beach gate fees, checking stickers and cleaning beach and bathhouse
- Schedule varies, 15 to 30 hours per week as determined by recreation director. Some weekends may be required.
Camp Counselor: Recreation Department Summer Day Camp
- Responsible for child supervision at summer day camp, with other duties as assigned by the camp director.
- Schedule varies, 15 to 30 hours per week as determined by camp director. Some weekends may be required.
The town is also looking for a day camp lead, who will be responsible for assisting the day camp programs in group games, sports, arts and crafts, cooking, swimming computers, science, music, field trips and other special events. Previous day camp or teaching expericence required, preferably three years, as well as college-level coursework in elementary or secondary education, CPR and first aid certification, supervisory experience and the ability to communicate with both children and adults.
