PORTSMOUTH, RI — Monday, Oct. 14 is Columbus Day, a day off of work or school for many across Rhode Island. Named for Christopher Columbus, the holiday is an important celebration for Italian-American culture.
In honor of the holiday, many businesses and public services will be closed. While it is a federal holiday, only some businesses choose to observe it.
